Beaver Skinning and fleshing

Merle and Chance supernault stopped by with two freshly trapped beavers. They shared their knowledge and skill about trapping and the fur trade with our students.
On March 19, Ian Porteous of Les Bucherons, facilitated 2 workshops with our students. The focus was on French Canadian traditions that originated with the voyageurs and furtraders. The students learned some traditional songs and dances and later treated the audience with a performance demonstrating what they had learned. We will be posting a video of the performance soon.
On February 25, we held our Winter Carnival. Children enjoyed a variety of activities. They worked together to build a fire and cook bannock. Students learned about local animals such as wolves, foxes, coyotes, moose and deer. They painted in the snow. Students also had to use compasses to follow directions to a secret location. Thanks to Jason BigCharles for his assistance setting up the activities.
